BIBLE EXHORTATION
Scripture often uses the idea of “altars” to represent places of devotion, influence, and repeated patterns in a family or community. While some altars honored God, others represented practices that needed to be removed and replaced.
Gideon was instructed to pull down his father’s altar and build a new one (Judges 6:25–26). Elijah repaired the altar of the Lord before calling for restoration (1 Kings 18:30). Abraham built altars that reflected commitment to God (Genesis 12:7–8).
Through Jesus Christ, Scripture emphasizes renewal, transformation, and a new foundation (Hebrews 13:10).
The principle is this: negative patterns can be replaced with intentional, positive foundations.
LONG ILLUSTRATION
Imagine a house built on an old, faulty foundation. No matter how much you renovate the walls or decorate the rooms, cracks keep appearing because the base is unstable.
Now imagine rebuilding the foundation. Once the base is corrected, the structure becomes stable, and everything else begins to align.
“Altars” can be thought of as foundational influences—belief systems, habits, and patterns that shape outcomes over time. If the foundation is unhealthy, results are affected.
In the life of Gideon, change began when the wrong foundation was removed and replaced.
Real transformation starts at the foundation level.
