Imagine a prisoner who has spent many years behind locked gates. Every morning he hears the sound of chains and assumes he will never be free. One day, a royal messenger arrives carrying an official pardon signed by the King. Legally, the prison no longer has authority to hold him. Yet the prisoner remains seated because he has not realized that the door has already been opened.

Many Christians live this way spiritually. Jesus has purchased their freedom through His death and resurrection, yet fear, guilt, condemnation, and lies continue to imprison their minds. Satan continually reminds them of yesterday, while God continually points them toward the cross.

When the prisoner finally stands up, believes the King’s word, and walks through the open door, he experiences the freedom that had already been secured.

Likewise, Christ calls believers to stand upon His finished work. We pray not because fear is greater than God, but because God is greater than every fear. We renounce every allegiance that contradicts our faith, cling to Christ, and trust Him to lead us in freedom.
