Prayer Focus
This prayer session focuses on effective follow-up, soul retention, new-believer care, discipleship, spiritual maturity, pastoral coordination, church integration, compassionate communication, responsible record-keeping, prayer, visitation, encouragement, healthy relationships, and sustainable church growth.
The Follow-up Coordinator serves an important role in helping people who encounter the gospel move toward meaningful participation in the life of the church. Follow-up should not be reduced to counting attendance or contacting visitors. It should involve genuine care, appropriate communication, discipleship, connection to the local church, and helping people establish healthy patterns of Christian living.
Bible Exhortation
Jesus demonstrated the importance of caring for people individually.
He said:
“What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine… and go after that which is lost?” — Luke 15:4
This illustrates God’s concern for individuals.
Church growth is not merely about increasing numbers. Healthy growth involves people being welcomed, discipled, cared for, established in Scripture, connected to Christian fellowship, and equipped to grow in Christ.
Paul instructed believers:
“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2
Follow-up ministry therefore requires compassion.
A coordinator may encounter people who are excited about their first church experience, others who are uncertain, some who are struggling spiritually, and others who simply need time and appropriate encouragement to become connected.
Paul also emphasized faithful care:
“Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.” — Acts 20:31
Effective care requires perseverance.
At the same time, follow-up should respect people’s freedom, privacy, circumstances, and appropriate boundaries. The objective is not to pressure people into church participation but to serve them faithfully, communicate appropriately, and help them encounter healthy Christian community and discipleship.
Prophetic Illustration
Imagine a newly planted seed.
Planting the seed is important, but planting is not the end of the process.
The seed needs appropriate water, nourishment, light, protection, and time before it becomes a strong plant.
In a similar way, an individual who responds to the gospel or begins attending church may need encouragement, biblical teaching, friendship, prayer, discipleship, pastoral care, and opportunities to grow.
The Follow-up Coordinator is like a careful gardener—not controlling the growth, but creating conditions in which spiritual growth can be nurtured responsibly.
The prophetic picture is therefore of a growing garden where every new believer is noticed, cared for, connected, discipled, and encouraged toward spiritual maturity.
