This is what happens to a human heart without mercy. The Word of God (the seed) cannot penetrate. Compassion dries up. Relationships suffer. Even divine instruction becomes irritating instead of refreshing.

But when the farmer tills the ground, waters it, and breaks the hardness, the same soil begins to produce life again.
